Why I’d rather build it than describe it.
Describing software to somebody who doesn’t build software is mostly a waste of both our time. You end up agreeing to a document, and then finding out in month three that the two of us pictured different things.
Building it first removes that entirely. You’re not deciding whether you like the sound of it. You’re deciding whether you like the thing.
It also means the risk sits with me, which is where it should sit. If I’ve misunderstood your business, I’ve wasted my week, not your money.
